The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and a team make a movie -- write, shoot, edit and score it -- in just 48 hours. On Friday night, you get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. Then it will show at a local theater, usually in the next week.
In 2009, nearly 40,000 filmmakers made 3,000 films in in 76 cities. This year, we're even bigger, with filmmakers around the world taking the challenge to make a film in just 48 hours.
The Indianapolis location of the 48 Hour Film Project, produced by Big Car for the second year, returns July 30-Aug. 1. And online registration is now open. Just visit the Indianapolis 48HFP website, for more information and to reserve your spot in this year's competition. The cost for a team is $155.
We'll have a pre-project mixer at Big Car on July 24 at 7 p.m. before the screening of the local film Strange Colors. See details about the film below. 48 Hour Film Project participants can stay for the screening for free.
This year's exciting screening event will again happen at The Toby Theater at the Indianapolis Museum of Art on Aug. 7. Last year, we packed the place with 30 teams entering films -- and had a blast.
Interested, but need help finding a team? Enter your info into our filmmaker database. Team Leaders will receive access to this database once they register and will contact folks to add to their teams. To add your info, click on "Join an Indianapolis team" on the Indianapolis 48HFP website.
Here's last year's winning film from Indianapolis:
Strange Colors Film Screening, 8:30 p.m. July 23
Strange Colors is a High Definition film by Indianapolis native Seth Andrews that showcases the underground and often forgotten subculture of aggressive Inline skating in Indiana. For three long years a small group of enthusiasts risked life and limb to document and share their love of what they do. Featuring stunning visuals and a diverse soundtrack from bands like Jookabox and Stationary Odyssey, Strange Colors will take you on a visual and audible journey.
This is Andrew's Fourth and final "Skate Film" and only the second ever to be on Blu-Ray Disc. Come on out and see what you've been missing! For more information please visit www.indianainline.com.

Big Car honored with a Cultural Vision Award from NUVO
From NUVO's story: "Big Car has connected formerly disparate parts of the arts community, helped spur an economic revival in Fountain Square during an economic recession, and is now partnering with like-minded nonprofits to make inroads into communities underserved by arts organizations.
"With all that Big Car has accomplished, it's hard to believe that this nonprofit is only five years old. Back in 2004, the office of this fledgling nonprofit was a former bathroom on the 2nd floor of Fountain Square's Murphy Building. But Big Car was soon growing by leaps and bounds ..."
