In the spring of 2019, The Kennedy King Memorial Initiative (KKMI) commissioned Big Car to design and produce a collaborative mural to overlook Kennedy King Park and serve as a reminder of Robert F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ideals as we work to diminish racial conflict, inspire courageous action, and strengthen Indianapolis. Big Car Creative Director Andy Fry consulted with KKMI on the thematic design and production. The mural features portraits of Dr. King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King surrounded by words from Kennedy’s speech, delivered at the park on the night of King’s assassination.
On July 24, 2019, Big Car worked with more than 150 Indianapolis Urban League (ULI) conference participants to produce the paint-by-numbers public art mural. Big Car also provided postcards, matching the mural design, for participants to color day-of and send anywhere in the world for free. The mural will be installed in the spring of 2020.
