The River West Art Alley is an open-air art gallery located on the West Michigan Street corridor in the neighborhood of Haughville, Indianapolis. It serves as an outdoor community gallery, and is made possible by a grant from LISC Indianapolis as part of the River West Great Places 2020 placemaking initiatives.
Since its inauguration in 2016 as part of the community event West Michigan Street Festival, the River West Art Alley has featured local artists and music performances. As part of the placemaking grant, local artists from the Near West area received a funding opportunity to paint murals in the alley, whose work beautified a once gray looking alley. Some examples of the transformation of the River West Art Alley can be found in this before photo and the after the transformation photo.
